The Queen and Mangosteen at Vivocity, Singapore

After last weekend which made me pretty speechless, somehow i miss Tiffanie more and started going through some of her pictures on my computer only to find out i didn’t blog about this lunch session when i was in Singapore back in March. =X

We went to The Queen And Mangosteen at Vivocity, Singapore. A pretty pleasant and comfy place.

It was her birthday actually and i called Steph and Mike out for a simple lunch

Tiffanie and Steph

Prolly something too simple for a birthday lunch but i’m not THAT rich that i could splash loads of money with the currency being converted SGD so… Yea… =(

Anyways, there’s this 3 course meal for SGD38 and if you top up another SGD7, you get a half pint of their Archipelago beers.

So Me, Mike and Steph ordered the the set where both me and Mike added the SGD7 for the beers. Tiffanie

Salmon Salad – 3/5

Mushroom Soup – 2.5/5

To be frank, for such a place that had me having good impression when i first step in, the starters above disappoints me where it’s just normal. Nothing to wow about.

Roasted Angus Rib-eye of Beef – 4/5

Good thing that when the main course came, i did enjoyed it. The rib-eye was medium cooked and it was soft & easy to bite, with the texture of beef to my liking, the plate was served in just the right portion.

Roasted Spring Chicken – 3/5

On the other hand, Mike’s Roasted Chicken seems to be quite a disappointment for him. It was too small a portion for a lunch meal and for someone who is bigger in size than me, i’m pretty sure he didn’t get enough that meal. However, according to Mike, the chicken was quite okay.

Roasted Rack of Lamb with Rosemary Potatoes, Grilled Asparagus and Mint Yoghurt (SGD29) – 3/5

Last but not least, the Lamb Rack that Tiffanie ordered was pretty filling and it was well prepared. I only had a few bites but i think it was delicious and most importantly, she liked it pretty much, so i assume that this dish is worth ordering!

The 3 Course Meal comes with this sinful dessert above, do i need to describe more? =D

Alright so, it was quite a good lunch session actually and i really owe both Mike and Steph a lot as for some unknown reasons, there was a big wide smile hanging on Tiffanie’s face that afternoon after the lunch.

Perhaps it’s because that Mike & Steph offered to pay the bill but i still think that there’s something that made Tiffanie happier than usual. =D

Soup Restaurant, House of Chinatown Heritage Cuisine at Paragon, Singapore

2 weeks back, i went to Singapore to celebrate her birthday. =)

but being a useless bf myself and not having a complete plan that is, i actually panicked and was scratching my head thinking of what to do, where to bring and such. Headache much.

Ended up at Paragon, went to this place Soup Restaurant which the gf decided so then. Just because she went to another branch and said that the food was delicious so we went to this place for dinner.

Okay so it was quite a nice and comfy place, but hey for a birthday for someone special i somehow felt bad about this then. Needing to stand in a line to wait to be brought into the place for dinner double that feeling there and then.

The Food hmmm.

Hand Chopped Minced Pork Meat with Salty Egg – 2/5

Looks nice on the menu with simple straight forward description but when it came and i had my first try on it i was a bit tad disappointed. The pork weren’t really well cooked and it was salty, a bit too salty that is.

Not a good start huh?

Kangkung Sambal Belacan – 3/5

Ordering this pretty ordinary dish that is widely available back in Malaysia makes me comparing it straight away when it came. To my surprise, it was at least above average. The Sambal Belacan wasn’t too spicy but overall the dish is a bit too oily.

Claypot Tofu -4/5

This is one awesome dish which makes me nom nom nom all the way. Of course, when it came i was a bit surprise because from my knowledge, claypot tofu normally consists of a few types of vegetables along with the Tofu itself. But this alone its just the Tofu.

The specially made sauce which was added on the Tofu made the dish awesomely delicious but if you’re pretty particular about oily food, then you might not want to order this then.

Ling Zhi Lean Pork Soup – 3/5

This soup is pretty fine to me. Just a bit too sweet and the pork meat are not edible (Too Hard to Chew).

Soup of the Day – Chicken soup with Corn – 3/5

This soup is just normal. There’s corn and there’s chicken and it taste just right. Ok i’m pretty lazy at describing about it already then.

For all you know, at this time of me typing out all this, i’m already having this very guilt in me for not having a perfect birthday dinner plan for the gf which i was hoping to have for her. Furthermore, the food served at this very place doesn’t have any wow points to be told as well.

I’m such a lousy guy right?

but i did enjoyed my time being with her then. =X
*the bill came near to SGD50

San Peng Nasi Lemak

I’ve been craving for the Nasi Lemak at this specific stall which is located Off Jalan San Peng, Kuala Lumpur. Andrew the food expert was the one who brought me there the first time last year.

Yeah last year only i have the chance to visit the stall where its already in business for quite long already, more than 10 years if i’m not mistaken!!

So if was after Zee Avi’s concert that me and Ren headed to this very place with Yat joining us 20 minutes later. For the love of supper!

This stall is actually unique as it serves Nasi Lemak, Chinese Style. Oh how i love being in Malaysia with such awesome food. Apart from the usual Nasi Lemak rice which is cooked with coconut milk, Sambal, Egg, Sliced Cucumbers, Nuts and Ikan Bilis there were other varieties that totally made us food hunters spoilt for choice.

Curry Chicken, Curry Potatoes, Sausages, Fried Luncheon Meat, Fried Long Beans, Stewed Pork Innards, Sambal Sotongs, Sambal Kerangs were among the many there for your liking!

I personally had a basic plate of Nasi Lemak adding on Long Beans with Curry Potato, Fried Egg and Luncheon Meat that sums up to RM5.10 that night.

It is a very sinful supper i must say with the rice well cooked along with the Sambal that was purrrffeecctt!! Ask around your friends about this very stall and if they have been there before i’m sure they’ll agree with me that this Chinese Version of Nasi Lemak is one of the best that you can find in Kuala Lumpur.

Will definitely visit it again!

San Peng Nasi Lemak
Off Jalan San Peng, opposite the San Peng flats.
Opening hours: 9.45pm – 2.30am (closed on Sundays)

Thanks to Smirnoff – The Great Manchester Trip in December 2009!

I actually plan to write and talk about this very trip end of last year but failed to do so due to my laziness as well as the many pictures to go through and choose from.

Anyway anyhow this was the trip, the one that happened one week before my birthday last year at the very last month of the year.

Never did i imagine going on a 14 hours flight again all the way to Manchester, United Kingdom to watch a live match of a Barclays Premiership Game.

Its been 3 months since then and i could still tell you about how awesome it was from the start till the end of the trip. It was a well planned trip with full itinerary from the organizers of the contest.

Yes i actually won this trip through this contest The Spirit of Champions, all thanks to Smirnoff, the brand that brought me all the way to Old Trafford.

The itinerary of the whole trip was well planned from the start where we were picked up from a representative of Manchester United Football Club sending us to Premier Inn, the place we stayed the whole trip.

The people from MUFC were actually thoughtful that they had us going to one of the top Chinese Restaurant in Manchester on the very first night seeing that all 3 of us were Chinese. We were allowed to order anything and that got me secretly Wow-ing straight away. Started with Red Wine and the rest of it was just purely well done!

Grabbing every time we have in Manchester, we went to this nearby Club/Bar with the name Varsity and had ourselves a glass of beer each.

The scene was happening and everyone were pretty hyped up as Christmas was nearing that time where i was just chilling with the 3 others.

The next day was the bomb!! After having an all English breakfast, we were picked up and sent to Carrington, the training ground of Manchester United Football Team.

Seriously, i never see that coming when i was first told i won the contest. I mean like having the Marketing person of Manchester United Football Club and the Marketing person of Smirnoff welcoming you at the Carrington training centre is just wonderful.

Not to mention i was practically freezing once i stepped into the place. Nemanja Vidic was just 3-4 steps away from me sitting on the couch talking with some of the trainers/coaches and i could see Ryan Giggs coming out from another door passing in front of me going pass another door and i was just there. Stoning. Hard.

It was insane. I was already flying.

A training session at the gym followed by the ones at the field made me realize that i was not dreaming and it was all happening right in front of my eyes.

The Stadium tour plus the lunch at Red Cafe after that was awesome and i was smiling the whole way through, in Manchester United jersey that is.

Time was spent well in the evening exploring around the City and going to the Christmas Markets that was totally awesome as i loved the atmosphere to bits!

There was a wide variety of stores selling all sorts of stuffs and i just couldn’t keep my eyes of most of the things, walking slowly amongst the crowd and looking carefully at the items made me feels like a small boy who’s curious about almost anything everything!

Had dinner at Rosso Restaurant & Bar then that very night. A place that belongs to Rio Ferdinand of Manchester United. One high class dinner which i couldn’t possibly afford paying of course!

A big thanks to MUFC again for the dinner and that marks another awesome night of my life being in Manchester.

Woke up in the morning next day and had a short walk in the city with the cool breeze just had me wanting to stay there in Manchester permanently. Everything was perfectly fine for me and i just love everything over there.

It was the match day. Manchester United vs Aston Villa.

Having lunch meal before the kick off in Europa Suite was another unforgettable experience i must say. Gary Neville made a short appearance in the suite and once again i was stoning, throwing away the chance to get a picture with him.

With the game ended with Aston Villa 1-0 win over Manchester United, that marks the only disappointment i had the whole trip then.

Wanting to put the game result behind my back, heading to the most happening Club in Manchester was what i did that very night.

The crowd was crazy, the music was awesome and the drinks were damn cheap! Oh and both me and Ren didn’t get the names of the girls above LOL!

I really wished that time never past that fast where it was the last day already. It was pretty cold with an average temperature of -7 Celsius but i loved it to the max!

Spending time just walking around the city, going from shops to stalls getting some stuffs for the family.

This Hot Roast Ham Roll is the bomb i tell you, they sliced the meat in front of you and eating it while its hot in the cold weather is one of the best thing that happened in my life!

Christmas was in the air where caroling could be heard from far and there were quite a number of street performers along the roads in the city. All of that which made me wanting to stay longer.

A cup of coffee and some intimate moment with “Bumblebee” was the very last thing i did in Manchester.

I was already missing Manchester during the 14 hours flight back to Malaysia.

The kinda experience where i dare not even think or imagine about it. Meeting the football stars in person and taking a group picture with them, that was one of the best thing that happened to me in my life.

Thanks to Smirnoff for the once in a lifetime experience, one that i would never ever forget! *smile*

Reunion Dinner

Am glad and grateful that i have a family, one that kept me shelter for 24 years and counting, though complaints happens from time to time, i appreciates every single thing between me and them.

and again, Blessed Chinese New Year peeps!! =)

MAS Chinese New Year Dinner

There’s a period i frequent Subang alot when my girl was still staying there then. Never did i know about this very eating place – Restoran Crocodile Farm Seafood Village.

and so it was a pre-CNY dinner by the peeps at Malaysia Airlines!!! Another “Lou Sang” session which is of course good for me where i preferred this year’s Pre CNY sessions a lot more compared to last year ones. Don’t ask why. =D

Fellowships plus a few mini games sessions after the dinner was fun but well the main point of the night was about this latest contest by Malaysia Airlines. A trip to Taiwan this time and an opportunity to appear on TV that is, i want to go to Taiwan all these years, perhaps i should try joining the contest huh?

Do log on to MASTraveller.com if you fancy a free trip to Taiwan!!

Cheers!!

Breakfast at Jarrod and Rawlins

How’s the start of 2010 so far? Its the second month of the decade already and all i can say is i’m really enjoying my life thus far thanks to the great friends around with lame stuffs happening and etc.

Anyways, i shall talk about breakfast today, an awesome one!

It was an unusual morning Saturday for me on the 23rd of January 2010. Waking up early in the morning to play basketball is what i’ve been missing for at least 5 months. Then again, going for a food review is what i’ve not done in ages already.

Not like i get tons of invitation for food reviews in the past anyways, i went to Jarrod and Rawlins, the branch at Damansara Heights to get some awesome English breakfast for myself. Upon entering the premise, i find myself being at a very comfy place which i would really make it my home then where this simple and nicely decorated place had me wondering if i could get one house that is exactly like this in the future.

They even have this wonderful little garden!!

and so i find myself being among a small group of people who consist of ThomasYap the Datuk, Tock the Mr Everywhere, Elaine with her sister and hardcore foodies – the KampungBoy and City Gal!

Cut the sizzling conversations and story telling part full of gossips, this is the English breakfast we had!

The Breakfast sets that we had were from these 3 below :

J&R Fried Breakfast - Two Organic Eggs Sunny Side up, with Sausage, Bacon, Grilled Tomato, Hash Brown, Toast or Fried Bread Served with Coffee or Tea & Orange Juice – RM28

J&R’s Special. “The Full Works” J&R Fried Breakfast with Extra Sausage, Extra Bacon, Mushrooms, Heinz Baked Beans. – RM34

Scrambled Organic Eggs with Smoked Salmon, Two slices of toast or fried bread served with Coffee or Tea & Orange Juice – RM22

It was that breakfast that i missed dearly where i could have bacon plus scrambled eggs with baked beans and mushrooms. With a glass of fresh milk/orange juice. Ahh life!

How does it taste like? Err English? Hahaha it was great of course, very very classic set of breakfast i must say, it was all fine and well cooked to perfection and the best thing of all is that they prepared the pork themselves which is of best quality!! The smoked salmon one is new to me though. =D

Bloody Mary anyone? At “just” RM25. Hehehe.

So it was an affair of bread with tea or coffee that specific morning where we spent hours exchanging quite a lot of information. Most of it is about the evil plans between Thomas and Tock on how are they taking over the world by blizzard.

Thanks to Elaine for the wonderful session, i’m 10 steps back from my diet plan then. =D
