WordCamp Malaysia 2010

Attended the 1st ever Wordcamp Conference in Malaysia just yesterday. Well, won’t say much about it though…

Just go through the tweets tweeted during the session aite? It’s quite lengthy and i’ve actually removed more crap tweets/repeating tweets from the #wcmy timeline. I guessed the information below is enough to get you a picture of what happened in the event.

Note : Do view from bottom to top xD

@vernieman @icednyior Easier for segmentation, and to avoid name conflicts to name a few. #wcmy

@icednyior #wcmy add_filter() has a optional part for priority – in numbers. Smaller # = higher priority

@safirulalredha See: http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Coding_Standards #wcmy

@vironia @aizatto giving code examples on 2 types of hooks – action and filters #wcmy

@icednyior #wcmy Faiz prefers array callbacks. Didn’t catch why. Filters have to return something.

@icednyior Add_filter has 2 parts. Hook name & call back – the latter determines what Php function to call #wcmy

@linus_chew #wcmy question: How do define/charge advertisers for your ad space.

@Khairul khairul Winners don’t use Nuffnang or Advertlets. Amen. #wcmy

@whykimi #wcmy does page load speed affects traffics? I do know liewcf.com looks so plain yet it loads very fast!

@scamboy @liewcf says “beg” for comments on blog #wcmy

@tjunkie How do you promote your blog initially to generate traffic #wcmy

@goldfries #wcmy @hongkiat @icednyior most people stop even before they start making money. they’re better off not blogging. attitude no there.

@wafflehausmedia @vernieman I believe it should be 80/20… Especially in aff marketing. premium content 80%, selling 20% or less! #wcmy

@vernieman Interesting insight from @friedbeef. Rewards loyal readers by reducing ads. #wcmy

My Story behind Nuffnang Awards

Proof that girls are more 38 than guys. There were more inquiries from girls compared to guys about this blog post posted 2 days ago.

Well i might offend the girls with that statement above but heck i’ve already offended some certain sensitive people with the blog post mentioned above and i will further offend these same people with this blog post here. So yea, fry it!

The story?

I’m not gonna talk about all these in details nor i will mention the names of the individuals, anyhow this post will still be quite long so read only if you’re interested Thank You.

Since the start of this whole Nuffnang Awards when they announced it officially on all the Nuffnang sites, there were 3 groups of bloggers.

Group 1 – The minority ones who knew what is going on behind the scenes and don’t really care about this.
Group 2 – The majority ones who are unaware of what is going and is totally excited about this event.
Group 3 – The majority ones who are unaware of what is going and don’t really care about this.

Alright then, as for me, getting a fully sponsored trip down to Singapore attending an event as big as this sounds nice to me of course, but seeing the requirements to get the invites which is making 2 blog posts where i need to do quite a lot of things here and there plus knowing how the people work in sending out invites to “bloggers who are qualified” had me quitting the intention of doing the posts.

A few days later, a call from Nuffnang “offering” me passes FOR 2 to the “prestigious” event down in Singapore where passes would be allocated automatically for me once i’ve done and submitted the 2 blog posts. Then i thought it was okay since i’ll get the invites once i’ve completed the blog posts.

Did the posts and submitted them where i got a confirmation mail from them saying i’ve gotten the passes had me applying leave and arranging stuffs. Getting all ready for it then.

One fine day, approx. 1 week before the event, a mail was sent out to get the details of the guests where i was out for lunch and the mails went on like this.

I mentioned that my guest is in Singapore and notified them that transportation is not needed.

Well i didn’t really read the email on the 2nd picture displayed above properly where they were stating that no TRANSPORTATION & ACCOMMODATION will be provided for my guest which is the only mistake i made.

In fact that’s actually their mistake and not mine. Originally, both transportation and accommodation should be provided for my guest because that was what they promised me when they called me in the start.

Continue on the story, just one day before the event, they called me up again and double confirm with me that no transportation & accommodation will be provided for my guest and i was assigned to sleep with another blogger.

With me not knowing about this because i didn’t pay attention in the mail above, i was pretty furious but hang on on my temper and questioned back why is that so.

and the whole thing was furthered to this very conversation.

Joshua Ong says:
There?
Person A says:
yes

Joshua Ong says:
is it impossible for me to have a room for me n my guest already. hmmm
Person A says:
yes

Joshua Ong says:
anthr ques
Joshua Ong says:
why is dat so dat at first u all say i could have a guest with me then
Joshua Ong says:
whether my guest is in spore
Joshua Ong says:
or in msia
Joshua Ong says:
i should have a room for myself and my guest rite
Joshua Ong says:
hmm
Person A says:
when we extend the invitation to malaysian bloggers, we assume that the malaysian blogger will be bringing a malaysian guest
Person A says:
which is what the sponsor wld be glad to have and sponsor the other half of the room
Person A says:
however, if the guest is a singaporean, the sponsor sees not much sense
Person A says:
to provide the acco for a singaporean who’s already staying in sg
Person A says:
which is logical from their view

Joshua Ong says:
my guest is a msian and not a sporean and from start you all did not mention about that
Joshua Ong says:
its logical from their view i know
Joshua Ong says:
but its not logical from our view as we know if we get we can bring one guest and that’s the only thing we know hmmm
Person A says :
your guest is a msian?

Joshua Ong says:
yes
Person A says:
aiya
Person A says:
then u shldn’t have told me
Person A says:
that your guest is a singaporean blogger

Joshua Ong says:
i even gave a msian ic number
Joshua Ong says:
no
Joshua Ong says:
my guest is a msian blogger
Joshua Ong says:
even registered under nn msia
Joshua Ong says:
not nn sg also
Person A says:
now this is difficult

Joshua Ong says:
actually i duno why u all assume my guest is a sporean
Joshua Ong says:
dat i’ve sent in ic number indicating a msian
Joshua Ong says:
wait ahh lemme finish
Person A says:
okok

Joshua Ong says:
i dont intend to quarrel
Joshua Ong says:
ok
Joshua Ong says:
nyways
Joshua Ong says:
i send in msian ic
Joshua Ong says:
and den on the fon
Joshua Ong says:
all i told the other staff dat time
Joshua Ong says:
my guest will be in spore already dat time and no transportation is needed
Joshua Ong says:
dats it
Joshua Ong says:
so it CAN be either my guest will be heading to spore a few days earlier
Joshua Ong says:
to do some stuffs and join me on the weekend
Joshua Ong says:
or it CAN be my guest is already there permanently or so
Joshua Ong says:
but its impossible my guest is a sporean cuz i’ve sent in the ic number…
Joshua Ong says:
but from start, like i’ve said
Joshua Ong says:
you all mention tat bloggers from anthr country can have accomodation for 2, the blogger and the guest. You all didnt mention dat guest should be under wat requirements right?
Joshua Ong says:
am i right hmmmm
Person A says:
there are always terms and conditions

Joshua Ong says:
hey
Person A says:
for every stated sentence
Person A says:
it cannot be possible be all put up front as it may cause even more confusion
Person A says:
for laymen
Person A says:
i understand how disappointed u are
Person A says:
at this moment
Person A says:
and i wish to help u
Person A says:
but at this point of time, it is simply not possible anymore

Joshua Ong says:
you dont tell me got terms and conditions man
Joshua Ong says:
wat stated there
Joshua Ong says:
is a pair of invites
Person A says:
the fact that ur guest has a permanent residence (be it student hostel or rented unit), does not qualify you guest to be sponsored acco

Joshua Ong says:
terms and condition thing was not under that field also
Joshua Ong says:
no offence but this is quite bullshit

Person A says:
i’m sorry i can’t talk to u further on this
Person A says:
i need to ensure the event runs smoothly tmr
Person A says:
i hope u’d understand

Joshua Ong says:
nvm

After that conversation, i’ve made up my mind to reject going to this event, even though i can still opt to do so with me having thicker face acting as though as nothing have happen.

Frankly speaking, for me, most of the dialogues/answers given were pretty lame/crappy and even ridiculous to an extend. Graphic designers were pull into the picture taking the blame as well. I mean, for an event like this covering a few countries with around 300++ people attending it, a name THIS BIG,

NUFFNANG, ASIA PACIFIC’S FIRST BLOG ADVERTISING COMMUNITY

should be more professional on this whole matter. Especially when i’m not like those few months old blogger who just started appeared out of no where jumping in the bandwagon creating a blog and start blogging.

I doubt even the few months old bloggers will take all the explanation above as a valid one. They’ll just swallow it all down and keep quiet.

Just like what i’ve blog on Nuffnang Awards previously, this is an event with sponsors and i fully understand that Nuffnang have to consider a lot of stuffs business-wise.

but, again and again when i inquire stuffs from the past till now, stupid excuses and ridiculous answers were shot back, SHOT back not replied!

Thanks to some fellow friends who are kind enough to advice me not to blog about this where i was questioned what will i get from this whole blog post putting it up to the internet, it will do more harm to me than good in the long run, my reply is, i have my limits, it is not this matter alone that i made a decision to blog a post so long about this.

I may sound like a sore loser here but hey I rarely blog a blog post this long with such amounts of words and i don’t expect you to sucked up to me telling me i’m oh-so-awesome-making-such-a-stand, i just hope that you’ll think again after reading this post. Of course, if you would like to bash me, feel free to do so. =)

So, to those people whom i’ve offended, especially the ones who have the power of command in their hands on top of the whole community, i seriously hope that you read what i’ve written here, every single word.

I know its pretty hard to please every one and single blogger, but when shits happens, please stop bringing out lame excuses and such, we aren’t 3 years old. With the minority bloggers who kept their mouth shut tightly about the ugly stuffs behind, some with benefits on hands where some just opt to swallow it down their throat, i hope you enjoyed reading this “drama” i’ve created.

To Nuffnang, for the millions of us bloggers out there, Nuffnang is more than a company where its not just business and business alone where profit of the company plays the main role in the whole picture. With the amount of power you guys have in hand, much more could be achieve and people are putting their faith on you guys.

There are quite a number of disappointments already so please don’t make the numbers rise anymore.
*unless you guys don’t give a damn about it then i have nothing else to say.
