Watched this movie just yesterday night at 1 Utama thanks to ChurpChurp Malaysia and I must say that thought this film has quite a number of loopholes with illogical parts in it, Fast and Furious 6 is a movie YOU MUST WATCH. Definitely one of the best movies I’ve watched in 2013.

In Fast and Furious 6, there wasn’t a clear emphasis on what cars to be featured. Muscles and Tuners both are equally important in the film but further more, I liked the fact that the relationship between the group were focused on where it all started with all of them reuniting to get back Letty, who should be dead base on what happened earlier in the Fast and Furious universe.

I don’t know will you noticed it or not but there are quite a number of illogical parts in this movie, questions that start with how, why will constantly come up but well screw all of that because the awesomeness of the engines sound in the cinema hall puts everything aside.

There’s a lot to laugh at in the movie, quite a big portion of the conversations were funny and I’m sure those who’re totally not into cars will enjoy this film too. If you’re expecting non-stop action scenes from the start till the end, then I can tell you here that it’s not the case for Furious 6. Anyway, I liked the breaks in between different action scenes, just right for me to digest the previous action scene before the next one comes kicking in. The flow of the story was nice.

I guess the best part of the Fast movie franchise is that the chemistry between the cast, how every characters compliment each other which was highlighted in and out the film. Of course, there’s a bit of surprise on the ending part. Nice one I must say. Tokyo FTW!

The fact that there are several touch points placed by Justin Lin connecting the different Fast and Furious movies bringing the different characters together as a close entity really had me liking this movie very much and I’m totally looking forward in what the Malaysian director James Wan can do to Fast & Furious 7!

The Great Gatsby is one of the best movies I’ve watched in recent weeks! Totally loved the story and the setting with all the fancy makeover, the classical taste in the background and the whole plot itself. I don’t know about you but I personally appreciate watching movies like this which highlights a certain culture, people, background & etc from the past.

There is not a single doubt in Leonardo Dicaprio’s performance from his body gestures to the way he speaks and how he showed that charming smile and confidence & etc. Apart from that the story was what which attracts me the most.

Featuring a mysterious central figure from the narration of a first person view through Nick Carraway, The Great Gatsby was set in the 1920s and it was far entertaining that I’ve expected especially when the whole story was just a single sided narration from just an individual – Nick Carraway.

In present time, the character Nick was created as an unreliable person who has a history of multiple bad habits with alcoholism being one of it. With that as a base to the whole story, there were quite alot of parts in the whole movie which might be subject to just Nick’s opinion/judgement rather that what really happened.

Before Gatsby himself made an appearance in the story, the mysterious fog around the character really had me hooked to the cinema screen and the story became even more interesting when Jay Gatsby came out approaching Nick Carraway in a party.

The rest of the story featured the lives of the corrupted, riches and powerful individuals. Love and relationship was a big part of the whole plot as well and it was kinda sad the see the fact at the end of the movie with the fall of such a figure which was carefully narrated from the start to the end.

The Great Gatsby is more than a good watch and the best part of the whole movie was during the confrontation between Gatsby and Tom in front of Nick and Daisy. The tension in between different characters in that small room with tons of priceless expression being portrated, it was really well done. Go watch it!

Thanks to Nuffnang, I got to watch Star Trek Into Darkness in 3D on Thursday night at GSC 1 Utama and I must say that I liked the film pretty much!! Well if you’re expecting a lot of action in space then you might be a bit tad disappointed but I personally think that Star Trek Into Darkness has a pretty complete story line. In fact, I felt that this movie is slightly better than Iron Man 3 which was released recently.

The crew members of USS Enterprise need no further introduction. The dynamics between the crews especially the relationship of Kirk-Spock was one of the highlight of this film. I liked how they focus on the plot itself and manage to build the momentum step by step towards the climax of the film. That being said, for those who have zero knowledge on Star Trek itself, they won’t feel lost as well as there are enough bits of information spread through out the movie.

I don’t know about you, but I liked how Benedict Cumberbatch played Khan, one of the antagonists in Star Trek Into Darkness. He was so cool and most of his expression were partially shown just through his cool eye gazing. Only towards the end that anger were portrayed by Cumberbatch and I thought that was real nice.

Back to Kirk-Spock featuring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, it still bugs me that Zachary Quinto reminds me of Sylar of the series Heroes but of course, he did a good job playing Spock.It was a plus point for this film where most of the humor elements came from him as Spock. Yeah Vulcans rocks.

The ship. Ah yeah the ship, if you ask me what was missing from the whole movie, I figured out that the ship itself has been neglected. Wished they showed more details of USS Enterprise as I clearly remembered of how I was fascinated by it when I was still a small boy. The unique exterior of the spaceship was what attracted me back then. Putting that aside, how the film makers show the process of warping and beaming had me opening my eyes widely. Won’t say it was totally awesome but I liked it pretty much.

Should you watch this movie in 3D? Well if you won’t get headache wearing those glasses, why not? Especially if you have experienced 3D in IMAX, you won’t forget that movie going experience. Worth a watch.

Before I start this off, I must say this – PLEASE do not put too much hopes on Iron Man 3. Don’t let your expectations go sky high and keep it at a normal level before entering the cinema hall because the fact was it wasn’t THAT AWESOME. Overall, it was good and everything went really well but because I placed my expectation too high, I was a bit tad disappointed when I left the cinema hall earlier last night.

One thing I loved about this 3rd installment of Iron Man is they highlighted the relationship between Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) and Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). The intimate chemistry they shared between the both of them as well as how Tony feels about Potts is strongly displayed in this movie. In fact, Pepper Potts’ role in Iron Man 3 is pretty crucial and I loved how they portrayed her differently this time round, she’s as awesome as Tony Stark himself!

With the introduction of Mark 42 suit, I was expecting a bit more details on what kind of special improvements or enhancements Tony Start made on the suit but that wasn’t really highlighted. Only a few stuffs were shown and the conflict initiated by the villain was brought in then. Anyway, that little disappointment of mine was compensated by the climax part of the whole movie towards the end of the story when the president of United States was kept hostage.

This film shows the life of Iron Man set in the timeline after the movie of The Avengers which was released last year. Tony Stark was not in 100% confident level after the alien invasion in New York which was started by Loki, Thor’s “brother”. The private side of Tony Stark was brought out and it was a slightly different side compared to the previous 2 Iron Man films, something different is always good. Of course, Tony Stark’s sense of humor was still there and that being said, it’s really hard to imagine someone else playing the role of Iron Man apart from Robert Downey Jr. because he did a really good job in bringing the character to life.

Well, at the start of this post I did mentioned that I was slightly disappointed. The reason being was because of The Mandarin, he’s the lamest thing being written in Iron Man movie franchise like seriously. The story was decent and I have no complaints at all on the casts as well as the visual effects, but the villain part sucks. At the end of the day, I was glad that Pepper Potts saved the day, that was the best part apart from the house party protocol executed by Jarvis with command from Tony Stark.

Ah house party protocol, awesome stuff.

Well due to the fact that Robert Downey, Jr.’s contract with Marvel Studios is expiring after the release of Iron Man 3, this would be a movie which you should head to the cinema and watch it. Iron Man 3 should be one of the best Hollywood movies in 2013

Drug War 毒战 is a movie which is directed by 杜琪峰 Johnnie To featuring 孙红雷 Sun Honglei, 古天乐 Louis Koo, 黄奕 Crystal Huang and etc. The movie was mainly filmed in China and had a decent story to go with. Won’t say that it was incredibly good but it’s worth watching.

The whole movie started off with a random accident which turns out into a full fledged investigation on a drug trade involving big names. It wasn’t a great story but everything was shot and edited well with a good script and of course, the main actors were good in their respective roles.

It was fun watching how the hide and seek game evolves between the law enforcers and the drug group behind the scene. Particularly loved how Sun Honglei played his part in blending into different characters in disguise to deal with different individuals in the story itself.

Both Louis Koo and Sun Honglei were big stars in their respective countries but they didn’t outshine each other in this movie and both characters are very different where you can clearly see how good they were going along through the plot which keeps you focusing on the screen.

The last battle featuring a gun fight was entertaining and the build up leading to the climax of the whole story was done tastefully. There were not much of disappointment on the movie itself despite it’s slower  pace compared to other police/action films.

Plot Summary : After “The Detective”, Oxide Pang returns with yet another detective thriller titled “Conspirators”, starring Aaron Kwok and Nick Cheung. Chen Tan (Aaron Kwok), a private detective in Thailand, travelled to Malaysia following the clues in a photo in order to reveal the truth behind the murder of his parents 30 years ago. There he finds a man called Chai, who directs him to Zheng (Nick Cheung), a Malaysian detective born in China. The two eventually stumble upon Chai’s daughter, Zhi Wei (Jiang Yi Yan) and realise that she may hold the key to the mystery…

This movie 同谋 Conspirators is a really lousy film that is not worth your time AT ALL. It was such a waste to have award winning actors such as 郭富城 Aaron Kwok and 张家辉 Nick Cheung to be in this particular film with a low standard story.

The movie was boring from the start. The fail attempt in exploring the suspense part of the story line was lame and all the mysterious clues leading to the culprit of the whole investigation was kind of presented in a bad manner – draggy and non-interesting.

Why you shouldn’t watch this movie? First of all the story sucks, secondly the scenes were shot really badly with a lot of unnecessary close up shots which is REALLY shaky. I have no idea what was the director thinking but this really ruined the whole movie. One of two such scenes might make an action scene look realistic with the shaky factor. Too much of it will just annoy the crowd and I was one angry annoyed viewer then.

Then, being a Malaysian myself watching a Chinese police communicating with his colleagues in full Mandarin from start till the end really made me feel a bit dumb. Yes there’s a possibility that some Malay or Indian police in Malaysia will understand Mandarin but from the whole investigation at a crime scene to a briefing in the police station with conversations between him and his colleagues in full Mandarin language doesn’t make sense at all.

The fact that they had a few conversations in Malay language used by the villain as well as some other characters but yet they insist in having all conversation by THAT police detective made in full Mandarin annoys me pretty much. If would be OKAY if the police was an interpol from China or so but no, he’s from the Royal Malaysia Police – a Malaysian.

Apart from the fact that the movie was filmed in Malaysia which had me interested a while, the 2 points which stopped me from leaving the cinema was 江一燕 Jiang Yi Yan being in the movie and 阿牛 Aniu acting as one of the characters in it. Jiang Yi Yan was really attractive and Aniu was funny in his own way.

My Rating for this movie is 4/10
*4 points for the cast – Aaron, Nick, Jiang Yi Yan and Aniu. Don’t bother watching this movie, seriously.

Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

Featuring the likes of Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough and Olga Kurylenko; Oblivion is a sci-fi apocalyptic fiction film which talks about this 2 humans Jack and Vika residing in a futuristic home with tasks of fixing drones on a daily basis. A “bubble” spacecraft was featured in the movie as a vehicle for Jack to locate a specific drone in order to conduct repair and maintenance tasks. Yes it sound boring and that was what happened exactly in the start of the movie.

The slow start showcases a few advance tech through the capsule home of Jack and Vika as well as the bubble ship and it was good enough to keep me hooked on the movie at the beginning. I always find post-earth destruction scenes fascinating, Oblivion did display a few birds eye view and an overall picture on how the world looked like then and I loved it.

Through out the movie, there were several repeating flashbacks involving a certain character and I thought the number of times they applied it on the main character was just nice, enough to keep you wondering in the dark with suspense and at the same time won’t be too annoyed with the repeated scenes. That itself actually leads to what may come in the later part of the movie and I thought the twist was quite brilliant. It’s not important on whether is it predictable or not but it was how and when they started to show the twist of the story in the movie, the timing was just right.

Loved the whole story of Oblivion.

But what which makes me think this movie is good to watch was mainly due to the sound effects applied in the film. From the tone and audio of different angles and objects, sound was particularly crucial for this film to be beyond enjoyable for me. The fact that there wasn’t much complicated scenes running in the background when the main object was portrayed in a particular part of the story, audio was there to keep you focused on the screen.

Apart from the sad fact of what really happened to the main character and how they ended the movie with the appearance of Jack from the woods, I think Oblivion has a good story that you’ll enjoy. Definitely an above average watch in the cinema. Go check it out!

The Croods is a fun movie to watch!! This is the kind of film a family should head to the cinema for. The fact that this movie is simple and direct with a strong sense of humor embedded in it made it pretty enjoyable to watch. The animal belt was the gem through out the show and I would instantly laughed whenever the cue was there for that 3 particular tone.

Sometimes, a film don’t have to be too complicated to be entertaining and The Croods is a very good example. There is no villain in this movie, perhaps mother nature is the biggest “enemy” but well, mother nature is beautiful by its own as well and it was displayed in the movie.

No idea how come it took so long for me to check out this movie. Guess it’ll never go wrong it you opt for an animation film nowadays. So if you haven watch the Croods, then go watch it in the next few days, one good film to release all the stress around keeping you away from the real world out there.

Plot Summary: When the White House (Secret Service Code: “Olympus”) is captured by a terrorist mastermind and the President is kidnapped, disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning finds himself trapped within the building. As our national security team scrambles to respond, they are forced to rely on Banning’s inside knowledge to help retake the White House, save the President, and avert an even bigger disaster.

Olympus has fallen tells the tale of how weak the defences of the White House are. The security team of the President of United States is equally as useless. Of course, the main point of the movie is to highlight how dangerous North Korea is, or rather the extremists from the isolated country.

Olympus refers to the White House and the movie is a highly entertaining for me personally. Loved how they display how carefully the intruders take over the White House, the strategy on the whole invasion was good. There isn’t any part which is boring, in fact, the different parts of the movie from one leading to another keep the story interesting with the suspense factor.

There isn’t any highly sophisticated weaponry being used in the movie except for the “rocket launcher” used by the North Koreans to defend the White House from the choppers sent by the US military. That part was really nice. Though it seems that it’s quite impossible to throw a one man show in executing a mission to save the president, I liked how they tried to make it as realistic as possible with Mike (Gerard Butler) bidding goodbye to death several times.

An entertaining action film with nothing too fancy, good watch!

Plot Summary : Kim, a 15-year-old teenager, is having the worst year of her life. She has not quite come to terms with her mother’s death a couple of years ago and has problems adjusting to her new school. At this time, her father Choon has decided to remarry Na, who hails from a remote village in Indonesia. Na experiences a lot of hostility in her new home, from Kim, her mother-in-law Mrs Lee and the maid Rosa. Further, it seems that her arrival has sparked off a series of spooky incidents at home. Things improve when Na becomes pregnant. Mrs Lee – who longs for another grandchild – starts treating her better, and even cajoles Kim to do the same. Meanwhile, Choon’s lacklustre career takes a turn for better. Just when all seems rosy, tragedy strikes with Mrs Lee getting terribly injured and it is discovered that Na has brought with her from Indonesia a macabre urn, one which contains a Toyol. When she forces Na to get rid of it, the consequences are tragic and horrifying…

Thanks to Nuffnang, I get to watch this movie yesterday and all I could say it is a well done movie. It revolves around a family encounter with a Ghost Child (a.k.a. toyol) when the father decided to marry an Indonesian-Chinese. She brings along her dead child in a bottle which soon causes much distress to the family.

One of the main reasons I love to watch horror movie is because of the awesome sound system and suspend. This movie just did his job so well for a Singaporean movie. Do expect this all the way till the end of the movie.

However, I think it could be improved a little bit more by showing more ghostly figures rather than suspend all the way. Don’t get me wrong. Suspend is good but I was hoping to see more ghostly figures.

Movie rating: 7.5/10.
