The Japanese did it again! The latest photo meme which has gone viral on the internet featuring a visual trick displaying giants against normal sized humans is getting various attention in the month of May 2013. The pictures were actually made based on the plot of Attack On Titan 進撃の巨人,  a relatively new Anime series which just debuted in April 2013 where it has created waves of conversations due to its unique plot.

The manga version of Attack On Titan 進撃の巨人 actually started off back in 2009 where it was just part of a monthly publication of Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine. A stand-alone tankōbon (Single Book by itself) version was released only in 2010 with the anime series being released in 2013 as mentioned above and THAT was when this title picked up interest from various individuals.

Japanese fans of the title Attack On Titan 進撃の巨人 has posted such images in the mid of April 2013 and there are quite a few other pictures featuring different versions of giants. One particular Twitter user with the Twitter handle @murai79 posted an image through Twitter and that tweet was retweeted more than 4,000 times.

The news of a live action adaptation on Attack On Titan 進撃の巨人 (Shingeki no Kyojin) excites the Anime community as well with an unofficial poster making its round of sharing on social media networks in recent weeks.

Move aside Makankosappo/Kamehameha (AGAIN it’s not Hadouken-ing) and Vadering. Here comes Harry Potter’s imaginary Quidditch game from the Japanese!

2 weeks back, there was a trend started in Japan which display one individual portraying the act of performing Makankosappo/Kamehameha from Dragonball. One week later, the creative people from the West replied with Vadering, an act of imitating Darth Vader performing the death grip.

Now the latest creative photo meme shows a bunch of Japanese youths playing Quidditch, a game told in the story of Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling.

I’m loving it so far, all the photo memes. Can’t wait to see more upcoming ones!

Attended WeChat party last week at Neverland Club, Kuala Lumpur and I must say that it was pretty awesome seeing different bloggers of different communities being together in a single venue at the same time.

The party highlighted 2 new WeChat ambassadors from Malaysia – Shaheizy Sam Lisa Surihani, both of whom have made a name in the local entertainment industry.

Apart from the free food and drinks provided at the event along with these cute looking cupcakes, there were performances by Awi Rafael, 许亮宇 Henley Hii and 蔡憶雯 Vivian Chua. The party lasted 3 hours from 7PM to 10PM with games session happening after the performances mentioned above.

For your information, WeChat is an messaging application for smartphone users developed by 腾讯 TenCent from China, 微信 WeChat was officially launched in Malaysia back in 2012.

WeChat offers a few more features apart from the normal one to one/one to many chat functionality. Full list of features offered by WeChat app include Video Call, Moments, Voice Chat, Web WeChat, Emoticons, Group Chat, Shake, Look Around, Drift Bottle.

It was just last week that the Makankosappo/Kamehameha (NO NOT HADOUKEN) meme has swept the internet by force and now, something new is up and viral from the West in “reply” to the Japanese from the East. Well it’s not exactly new either, many have posted such pictures in the past but it’s now re-posted online and a lot are following the trend.

This new trend is called Vadering which kinda translates to being like Darth Vader and one of Darth Vader’s infamous skills is the Force Grip. Vadering features an individual imitating Starwars’ Darth Vader unleashing the force grip on another person. Check out some of the many cool images on Vadering below!

I must say, this era of internet definitely had me entertained on various levels. I haven even finish digesting Makankosappo/Kamehameha and Gwiyomi the now Vadering is out. BEST!

What is Gwiyomi? Gwiyomi is a Korean internet slang which refers to “the cute one/little cutie”

하리 Hari (Danal Entertainment) is a South Korean artiste who sang the The Cute Song – Gwiyomi Song 귀요미 송 and back in Jan-Feb 2013, various Kpop artiste who appeared on Korean entertainment programs has attempted to act cute (During Aegyo Battles. Aegyo = act cute) with a few hand gestures/movements that was associated with the The Cute Song – Gwiyomi Song 귀요미 송. The first artiste to do so is believed to be Jung Llhoon of BtoB back in October 2012. The song describes the love of a girl and a boy in a cute way.

Kpop artiste who have done the Gwiyomi Aegyo include BTOB, JYJ, BEAST, SNSD, BIGBANG, BLOCK B, SHINee, INFINITE, 2YOON ,Sistar, Teen Top,S­UPER Junior and more.

I don’t know for what reason and why it took so long to became viral, in recent weeks, netizens have recorded their own version of Gwiyomi/Kiyomi on YouTube and it is currently gaining more attention. The people in Thailand practically made Gwiyomi a viral sensation in the month of March 2013 with Thai actresses such as Nuengthida ‘Noona’ Sophon and Tanyares ‘Tanya’ Ramnarong, Four Mod and Neko Jump joining in doing “Gwiyomi Aegyo”.

Don’t think this is the first time someone posted a picture like this online but somehow it seems to be trending in Japan with no apparent reason. Pictures showing Japanese teens doing some power moves featured in the popular manga and anime series Dragonball. To be exact, the pictures seem to showcase one single person releasing an invisible energy that will make the people around flying away.

According to DannyChoo.com, this is a meme which was started by a bunch of Japanese high school girls (where are the boys eh?) called Makankosappo. It is actually a signature move that Piccolo does in Dragon Ball.

Not sure if it’s a seeded promotional social campaign started in anticipation of the new Dragon Ball Z movie by Toei Animation that is releasing in Japan today – 30 March 2013, but it’s really cool for these people to come out with such pictures. Awesome stuff!

3 days ago, a Les Miserables Parody was released on the YouTube page of Republic of Korea Air Force. The video has achieved 1.2 Million views as of now and it’s going strong with major media platforms reporting about it.

The video was done with minimal budget featuring a bunch of Air Force officers shovelling snow at an Air Force base where a couple was featured along with a harsh insensible superior Air Force officer. The tracks included in this parody are Look Down, I Dreamed a Dream and Do You Hear the People Sing where the original lyrics were replaced with an alternative Korean-language version.

In the original, Valjean is protector and guardian of his adopted daughter Cosette.

In the South Korean version Valjean has to escape his overbearing superior officer who insists that he return from seeing her within one hour, leaving the loving couple only a short time together.

“We made the video to lift the spirit of servicemen who had to work so hard to clear snow during the unusually heavy winter this year,” Major Cheon Myeong-Nyeong, one of the officers behind the project, told the AFP news agency.

“We hope that the video can help shatter the image of the military as a dull place and encourage more youth to take the service with delight.”

All the cast in the video – with the exception of the woman playing Cosette – are conscripts.

Two years of military service is compulsory for all able-bodied men in South Korea, which technically remains at war with its neighbour, North Korea.

Last Friday, AsiaOne reported that Asian superstar 王力宏 Wang Leehom has claimed the title with the most followers on 微博 Weibo taking over 姚晨 Yao Chen’s throne who was at the top for the past 3 years since the China based social media platform became popular. At that point of time, LeeHom has 27 Million followers with YaoChen having 26.9 Million followers on the platform.

TAIPEI – Pop star Wang Leehom has been proclaimed king of Weibo, as his microblog draws more than 27 million followers and overtakes television star Yao Chen’s in popularity.

The Chinese American singer-songwriter’s following on China’s Twitter on Sunday edged past that of the Chinese actress, who has 26.9 million readers online, said Apple Daily on Tuesday.

Wang, 36, is known to take Weibo seriously and to send out a post every day, no matter how trivial, according to the newspaper. He shares about his work and daily things such as doing his laundry or repairing a device.

His Weibo is like a diary, and because he tends to post entries after work in the small hours, his fans stay up late for his updates, said Apple Daily.

Rumours about his private life – such as his close friendship with Chinese pianist Li Yundi and a sighting of him going home with Taiwanese model Evelyn Lin – have drummed up interest in his microblog too.

But he ran into trouble on Weibo two months ago, when he posted a picture of himself with a Japanese camera, and was attacked by Chinese netizens angry about a territorial dispute with Japan.

He thanked his fans on Sunday for following his microblog. He said: “We are entering a new media age, and the creation and distribution of music must follow, so my new song Zodiac will be issued on digital platforms including a legal download service on my personal website.”

Yao, 33, had reigned as the queen of Weibo for three years, before she was dislodged by Wang.

As of now, China’s actress 姚晨 Yao Chen has reclaimed the title with 27.9 million follower compared to LeeHom 27.4 million followers. The thank you message posted on 王力宏 Wang Leehom’s Weibo account on the 2nd of December has been removed.

Anyway, I believe both artiste have no intention to fight on this at all. At the end of the day, nobody knows how many fake accounts are there on China’s top social media platform. Well.
