You know, I was pretty excited when I was told that I will be able to test drive a Volkswagen vehicle. 2 weeks later, I went to Wisma Volkswagen to collect the VW Polo Sedan which was officially launched just months ago.

If you’ve been reading my blog all these while, you’ll know that I participated in a Volkswagen test drive 2 years ago and I had a taste of VW Polo, Golf & Scirocco; which I enjoyed really much. So yeah, this time round – I drove the new VW Polo Sedan for a few days!

Went to work with it, fetched colleagues for lunch with it, went “yum cha” with it & I even drove to Sunway to watch The Dark Knight Rises with the Volksvagen Polo Sedan & it was really nice “owning” the vehicle for a few days. Most of my friends were pretty impressed with the VW Polo Sedan when I briefly brought them out on a short ride.

The Polo Sedan comes with a 1.6l petrol injection 16-valve MPI engine. Equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic, it delivers 105PS that powers you up to a top speed of 183 km/h.

In this post, I’ll share with you a few points which had me interested in the vehicle itself.

Initial Look & Feel
First of all, the 4-door sedan is a simple & comfortable car. Simple means clean and neat here and I really like its simplicity with quality parts produced altogether.

From the headlamps to the doors with me stepping into the car itself and driving the vehicle off the road, it was either I’m over excited or I really liked the car a lot.

But back to the details, the seats were comfortable. The fabric was firm, not too hard nor too soft; just nice for me. The car is spacious as well. Most of the people I fetched out commented the same saying that the compartments of Volkswagen Polo Sedan is huge; from the glove compartment to the pocket just below the radio as well as the partition slightly behind the gearbox. That wasn’t it, the best part was the boot, you have to see it to believe how big it was!

On the Road
The 1.6L Volkswagen Polo Sedan comes with a 6-speed automatic with Tiptronic. Ignore the exact definition of the terms, let me just tell you what I felt while driving the car. First of all, it’s quite powerful. Definition of powerful -when I first stepped on the accelerator, I can feel the “force” and the six-speed automatic vehicle picks up pretty quick from point zero. The Volkswagen Polo Sedan is relatively light in weight.

Thanks to the electric steering which is really light, the handling of this vehicle was smooth & effortless. While I’m pretty satisfied with the acceleration of the Volkswagen Polo Sedan, one of the main highlight of this vehicle is its fuel efficiency, the Polo Sedan does 6.5L per 100km. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the time to fully explore that as I only have the car all to myself for a short period of time during weekdays.

Though I won’t say that it’s highly impressive, the Volkswagen Polo Sedan is a simple yet solid car & I’m quite happy driving it for that particular few days. Too bad I have different objectives in life at the moment with my current savings, if not, I’ll really consider in getting one for myself.

Proton latest car model under the code name P3-21A has received quite a number of buzz locally in recent weeks. The buzz went up higher when Proton Power of 1 event was held 2 weeks ago at Bukit Jalil. Frankly speaking, there are quite a number of negative comments on Proton’s recent car models & I’ve read some really nasty remarks on this. I wonder why are those people so negative.

I’m driving a Proton Saga BLM myself and I can say I’m extremely satisfied with the car. Bought it as a 2nd hand car and drove it for more than 1 year now & the condition is still good. =)

If you ask me, I will say that people need to change their mindset about Proton car models. Improvements will happen over time and Proton has gone through quite a long way till where it is today. Putting aside all the politics, scandals & even some minor stuffs such as the power window issues aside, I don’t think that the current models would have any huge problem by itself UNLESS the owner doesn’t know how to take care of the car.

Back to the latest model, I think that it’ll be a good drive. The new model named Proton Preve is priced between RM65,000 – RM75,000 & it’s already open for booking since early this month.

- Executive MT (Metallic): RM65,500
- Executive CVT (Metallic): RM68,500
- Premium CVT (Metallic): RM75,500

By the way, don’t you think the model look pretty much like City? If I have the money hmmm. Quite tempted.

The lack of interest of younger buyers was the driving force behind Toyota’s new 86 coupe, which the company hopes will add a bit of excitement to a company known for dull but dependable cars.

On a Toyota stand plastered with banners saying “reborn”, Toyoda said the company had to return to cars that were “fun to drive”. Toyota adopted the catchphrase “fun to drive” in the 1980s, but the discontinuation of sports cars such as the Supra, Celica and MR2 has seen the brand lose its lustre in recent years.

Back in May 2011, there was this HUGE youth event – ‘ One Million Youth Gathering (Himpunan Sejuta Belia)’ which was organized in conjunction of World Youth Day.

Generally, we, the youths in Malaysia have become more intelligent and demanding over the years in all aspects where we will try to obtain stuffs that suits our needs base on what we like. We know what is good for us and we’ll work our way to it.

Saw Timothy Tiah sharing this just yesterday and clicked into it only to be amazed by Mercedes Benz!!

It’s not the first time a car manufacturer company/brand coming out with a short movie like this which acts as an advertisement promoting their cars. It’s not the first time either that a specific brand create an interactive short film/movie for the public to interact with.

Loved all the 9 chapters as well as the highlights shown on the site with the interactive film/movie/advertisement featuring the Mercedes Benz C-Class Coupé.

Perhaps, one of the main factor why i loved it is because it was filmed in Malaysia Haha! The videos were shot in Singapore as well and all of it were displayed in High Definition!! =D

Speaking of that, for a smoother interactive session with the Mercedes Benz C-Class Coupé videos, you need to have UniFi connection Hehehe.

Was at PICC, Putrajaya International Convention Centre 2 days earlier to attend the Official Launch of Peugeot 207. Nuffnang got the invitations and we had 2 tables for ourselves, a bunch of Nuffnangers that is! =)

A very grand launch and it was my first time attending such event, an automobile one. There are speeches and introduction on the brand as well as the new model Peugeot 207 but i guess the highlight of the event was the attendance of our very fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad.

The whole session was pretty short straight to the point with members of the media taking pictures here and there which of course includes pictures of the new model Peugeot 207 displayed around the hall.

Seriously if you ask me what i know about cars, i would say i’m just a beginner and know nothing much about it.

One fact i can share about myself is i hate driving Auto cars, yes i’m living in Kuala Lumpur where traffic jams happen almost every now and then and i love driving Manual cars.

PUTRAJAYA: Nasim Sdn Bhd, the official distributor of Peugeot vehicles in Malaysia, expects to sell 5,000 to 6,000 units of the newly launched 207 sedan model, which is the first Peugeot to be produced in Malaysia that will be exported to other right-hand drive markets in Asean as well as Sri Lanka.

Chief executive officer and Naza Group joint group executive chairman SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin said Nasim was targeting to sell 20% of the total target units overseas.

“We will begin exporting the 207 immediately and the car would be featured at the 2011 Bangkok International Motor Show,” he told reporters yesterday after the launching ceremony officiated by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Nasarudin said the 207 was “an irresistible car” and the beginning of a new strategy for Peugeot in Malaysia and the rest of the region.

He said the car had 40% local content and in the future, more research and development would be done with Peugeot to increase the local content.

Earlier this year, Automobiles Peugeot appointed Nasim its partner to make Malaysia its manufacturing hub for the region. The 207 is the first car to be launched under this agreement.

As a B-segment car, the 207 was heading into an extremely competitive market currently dominated by Japanese makes, said Nasarudin. “However, we believe there is a current shift in the market towards European brands, especially in the aforementioned segment,” he said.

Aimed at urban consumers and young families, the 207 is equipped with a 1.6L engine and priced on the road with insurance from RM72,888.

Alright so this is the amazing TSI and DSG Experience i went through approximately 2 weeks ago with 3 different models of Volkswagen vehicles including the VW Polo, VW Golf & VW Scirocco!

It was an exciting drive from Kuala Lumpur – Kuantan – Terengganu and before i say anything on the whole experience, a BIG thanks to Volkswagen and Nuffnang for including me in this media drive. =)

So what is TSI and DSG?

TSI engines combines direct petrol injection with a turbocharger or charge compression with a turbo and a supercharger resulting in impressive performances figures and torque. Fuel efficient while achieving high torque at low revs.

In short, this feature/technology enables you to drive and accelerate reaching high speed in a shorter time. It is also environmentally friendly where CO2 emissions are also significantly reduced.

The DSG – Direct-Shift Gearbox  is an electronically controlled dual clutch multiple-shaft manual gearbox, in a transaxle design – without a conventional clutch pedal, and with full automatic, or semi-manual control.

It actually means two separate manual gearboxes (and clutches), contained within one housing working as one unit. DSG could help achieve faster shift times resulting in better torque ultimately to boost your driving pleasure.

So here it is. The TSI and DSG experience!! To test out the key features in the 3 new Volkswagen models on the road which includes the TSI engine and 7-speed direct shift gearbox DSG.

8.00am – 9.00am Arrival and registration at The Saujana, Subang with breakfast provided

I reached pretty early that day itself at The Saujana and got myself registered and proceeded to get my empty tummy full with the breakfast being served.

9.00am – 9.30am Event and Drive Briefing

A short briefing explaining the 3 Volkswagen models, the features as well as the route that we are suppose to take. The route was planned by the experienced organizers in the industry, YS Khong and Ivan Khong. It was a quick one followed by a full group picture session.

9.30 am – 1.00pm Flag off from the Saujana, Subang and head to Kuantan

The first car we drove is the Volkswagen Golf. Nope not GTI but hey i was impressed with how good it is!! The award winning model VW Golf is a very quiet car which is fuel efficient.

Totally loved it and when Shah was driving through the trunk roads, i really got excited as he’s an experienced driver who’ve attend quite a number of media drives before, he drove the Golf and pushed it till a certain level.

A level that i will not dare to reach on trunk roads with turnings here and there. The Golf was so stable and quiet that when i was driving it on the highway, i didn’t realize i went pass 200km/h.
*Sorry lah i do not have the chance to drive a car that can go beyond 200 before.. lolx

It was nice meeting Joshua Lee again!!

Anyways, if you don’t know, during the whole media drive, we stop at various stations to have a short break & refreshments as well as changing drivers. When all 3 drivers have drove a specific model, we exchanged car models at the next station and continue our journey.

So yea, back to the drive. The second car we tested/drove is the Volkswagen Scirocco. I like this the most compared to the other two where this model has the strongest torque amongst the 3 mentioned Volkswagen models which of course delivers higher performance reaching top speed within a shorter time compared with the other 2 models.

The whole journey with the VW Scirocco was awesome with fast acceleration and i had quite an experience thanks to the 7-speed direct shift gearbox technology - DSG .

Two words, Super Fast or Syiok Sangat!

1.00pm – 2.00pm Lunch at Hyatt, Kuantan beside Teluk Cempedak

The lunch at Hyatt at Kuantan just beside the beach of Teluk Cempedak was great!! Reminds me of the girlfriend though as she’s from Kuantan. =)

Anyways, after the lunch, we continue on our drive trip with the last car which is the Volkswagen Polo!

2.00pm – 4.30pm Drive trip continues from Hyatt, Kuantan

Compared to the VW Golf and VW Scirocco, the Volkswagen Polo is an award winning car getting the title of World Car of the Year as Car of Year 2010 for design, performance and technology.

Being the most economical and environmentally friendly amongst the 3 models, the VW Polo still comes with both TSI and DSG but of course performance wise in terms of stability, acceleration & etc, the VW Golf and VW Scirocco is better.

4.30pm – 5.00pm Expected arrival time at Tg. Jara Resort, Terengganu

The whole drive experience lasted from like 9.30am to 5.30pm where we reached the destination at Tg. Jara Resort in Terengganu safe and sound.

5.00pm – 7.30pm Check-in and ‘Free and Easy’

We checked in shortly and went to our rooms immediately. The whole resort is a beautiful place, go Google about it and you’ll find out about this paradise in Terengganu!

Just look at this room alone and it’s only like 40% of the room being shown in the picture above. The bathroom alone is bigger than my own room back at home!!

The best thing of all was the generosity of Volkswagen Malaysia that this whole room belongs to me alone for the night! Awesomeness!

A bath and a short rest followed by a walk on the beach with Cindy talking aboutstuffsthatyoushouldntknow before we headed to the dinner happening at another side of the beach. =D

7.30pm – 7.45pm Welcome address by Mr Andreas Prinz, Managing Director, VGM

7.45pm – 10.00pm Dinner & Fellowship with entertainment by Liyana Fizi and her band (On the Beach)

Long story short, it was an awesome night with good food and all of us gets to socialize around with each other on the beach. I myself had quite a lot of food *burp* and “drinks” as well Haha. It was all good but me being me as i normally would become Mr Anti Social in such occasions/events, i just spent most of my night listening more than talking. =)

I spent the whole morning being a pig the next day sleeping in my room and it was around 11am only i started packing and getting ready to check out. An awesome place to have holidays.

Had our lunch before getting on a shuttle bus to Kuala Terengganu Airport.

12.00pm – 12.30pm Check out Tg. Jara Resort after lunch.

2.00pm 3.00pm Shuttle to Kuala Terengganu Airport + Check in at KT Airport

4.15pm – 5.15pm Chartered flight to Subang Airport.

There was a Chartered Flight arranged by Volkswagen Malaysia for us to head back to Subang Airport from Kuala Terengganu Airport.

My favorite model amongst all 3 would surely be the VW Scirocco but hey if i have the money, i don’t mind getting a VW Golf as well Hehehe.

Anyways, i am really thankful to Volkswagen giving me the chance to experience the TSI and DSG technology driving the VWPolo, VWGolf and VWScirocco. Definitely a well organized drive/trip which is quite a valuable experience for me and of course, i would love to attend more of such trips/drives next time!

Does this means that Proton Inspira is better than Mitsubishi Lancer??

At a special media briefing held at Proton’s Centre of Excellence recently, Inspira’s project manager Zulkifli Bidin clarified several matters.

He said the Waja’s replacement model originally started out as a joint development project between Proton and Mitsubishi Motors Corp three years ago.

After convincing Mitsubishi that Proton could improve on Lancer’s driving performance, Mitsubishi gave the green light to the suspension tweaking.

Among the improvements were revised suspension rating and bushings for a more comfortable ride and the incorporation of thicker anti-roll bars for better cornering stability.

For the past few months, i’ve been looking to buy a car for myself and with my current situation, i can only look at second hand Saga BLM. Yes not even the new ones but just second hand as i don’t have the budget.

Anyways, just hours ago i came across this article on the replacement unit for Proton Waja with the name Proton Inspira. This model have been rumored for quite some time already where it looks 99% the same with Mitsubishi Lancer and well, there’s a brochure on the new unit already.

Okay, apparently it’s a leaked brochure that is.

I don’t know how inspirational will you feel but well the features from the brochure are :

-Bold and aggressive styling
-Trunk Remote Control
-Paddle Shift Peformance
-Fully Automatic Climate Control
-5-star Safety Rating
-2 Years Free Servicing

and the starting price for the new Proton Inspira is from RM79,XXX.

To be exact it will be below RM80,000 for 1.8 and below RM95,000 for 2.0.

Proton Inspira 1.8 is available for both Manual and Automatic transmission where Proton Inspira 2.0 is only available for Automatic transmission.

Interesting much and oh from the brochure, it states that you can start booking for the new model from tomorrow onwards with RM1000 down payment where the official launch of this new model Proton Inspira will be in November 2010.

I don’t know how is 5 star safety rating like but i’m pretty sure the quality won’t be as good as the ones being exported overseas. Talking about treating foreigners better than their own countrymen. Pfft.

If you could afford to buy one, will you do so?
