Watch this movie – White Vengeance 鸿门宴 just yesterday night and i must say that this movie is DAMN good!! Well that is if you’re a fan of movies base on Chinese historical background.
Set in ancient China history after the collapse of Qin Dynasty during The Chu–Han Contention 楚漢相爭 (206–202 BC), White Vengeance 鸿门宴 focuses on one of the most famous incident back then which is the banquet in Hongmen 鸿门宴 involving 2 important men in China’s ancient history – Liu Bang 刘邦 & Xiang Yu 项羽 . An event which directly influence the course of history where Liu Bang 刘邦 built the Han Dynasty after defeating Xiang Yu 项羽 who was more superior in terms of military resource.
Featuring the likes of Leon Lai 黎明, Liu Yi Fei 刘亦菲, Jordan Chan 陈小春 Anthony Wong Chau Sang 黄秋生 & etc with a good script base on a strong history background, the movie was better than i’ve expected.
The importance of a military advisor was always highlighted in China’s history during the times where warlords roamed the land. I love how the script was written that the banquet at Hong-Men was just the start and the chess duel was ultimately entertaining.
The duel ended up with 2 sides losing badly and it was showed with a few twist in this movie that will make you go Wow. The intelligence of Zhang Liang 张良 & Fan Zheng 范增 was the highlight of this movie where they continuously offered tricks & tactics advising their respective master Liu Bang 刘邦 & Xiang Yu 项羽.
Loved how the war scenes were shot from an aerial view showing the landscapes & surrounding on how war tactics worked back then, from solo fights in the war scenes itself to the epic view of the military of both sides clashing, i like this movie pretty much. =)
Felt a bit disappointed that they didn’t further talk about the love-triangle relationship. Would be awesome if they do so. Anyway, though there’re some really slow parts in the movie itself, i will say that it’s really worth watching. =)
