This specific movie review will be slightly different from the others. Reason being that this movie has received quite a lot of response and most importantly, it’s a local production…

…and well i must say, it’s a pretty good one. =)

All hail the elder sister of Shin Chan!!! Miss Karen Kong!! LOL

Okay, to tell you the truth, i’m not a big fan of Namewee and what he does. I would agree that he’s unique and talented in his own way, but there are certain things/act which is a bit extreme & dangerous. However, this decision of his to come out with this movie Nasi Lemak 2.0 is a good path taken.

Namewee 黃明志 is a familiar name amongst Malaysians and i believe he do not need any introduction. In this movie, he was the director, lead actor, script writer & music director.

From 2 years ago when he posted videos and blog posts telling the whole world he wants to make a movie searching for funding from the Government(Creative Fund, Finas Fund & 1Malaysia Fund), i thought it was a big joke. No matter how talented you are , you can’t possibly go and make some videos and post up on YouTube expecting people to actually fund you to make an actual movie out of nothing. Even if you’re famous for a controversial song which was made famous due to YouTube. It’s a joke.

Of course, along the years, he did proved himself by showing the amount of support he gets as well as touching the hearts of quite a number of parties and talents which in return agreed to provide funds as well as act in the movie itself.

With the wide list of Malaysian talents helping Namewee 黃明志 in the true spirit of ONE Malaysia / Malaysia Boleh, the movie was overloaded with multiple characters.

Pros – Most of them made their presence felt in the movie and brought laughter to the audience, undeniable, the experienced artiste did Namewee a big favor with their talents and acted/performed well in the movie bringing much entertainement.

Cons – Too many characters introduced, confusing & too many relationship links.

Thanks to the story of the movie which have a clear Protagonist/Antagonist along with an interesting yet simple story line, the focus was still on the main characters. Noble values were added with lots of local Malaysian contents where only Malaysians will understand – A lot of indirect reflection of the recent issues in Malaysia were inserted in the movie. From characters names to dialogues to the scenes itself. LOL.

Am glad that most of the humorous points weren’t overuse in the movie. Overuse = lame = Duh and most comedy movie tends to do that.

The whole movie is funny enough to keep your eyes & ears following scene to scene of the story, not too funny till you’ll go having WTF thoughts in the next part losing your focus.

The movie was shot with Canon EOS DSLRs, that helps a lot in completing the movie in 6 months where it is able to be out during Malaysia Day itself which brings more meaning to Malaysians. Of course, with those equipment, i must say, i loved the detailed shots with good composition. The while balance, color tones & YES the video/audio editing was good!

This is a movie which occupied 2 years of Namewee’s life which includes wasting time in applying funds everywhere, going to lots of places, individuals, parties to get funding, talents, equipments & etc. This movie wasn’t even confirmed to be on the big screen upon it’s completion of the post-production where Namewee said he wasn’t sure will it go through, that’s just 2 months back.

He waited 6 hours to get the certificate from the censor board in Malaysia. The movie budget is less than 1 million where most funding contributed to the CG-Effects and Post-production (Conversion from Digital to Film to be used in cinemas, Video/Audio editing).

Language Used : Hakka, Mandarin, Cantonese, Teo Chew, Hokkien, Malay, Tamil, English
Notable Quotes : Muack Muack, Walao Eh, Lai Liao 来了etc
Notable Characters : The Muack Muack Lady, The Head Banging Dude, The Big Belly Grandma Lover & more LOL!

This is the first time he directed a movie and there are people who started saying that he’ll be the Jack Neo of Malaysia. I won’t take that as a joke this time. It is possible.

No, of course i don’t hope that he’ll be involved in a sex scandal, i just hope that he’ll continue to make more meaningful movies for the Malaysian market with good values inside.

He deserved all the credits. It’s a good movie, a good local production by MALAYSIANS to MALAYSIANS.

If 450 Malaysians can pay RM64 each to watch Nasi Lemak 2.0 in Melbourne in a special screening on Merdeka Day, i don’t see why cant you pay RM10-12 per person to watch it locally in MBO/GSC/TGV/Cathay. Go watch it! =)

My Rating for this movie is 7.5/10
*The ending would be better if they feature the chef (who gave up his noble values) who inspire Chef Huang when he was still a boy rather than his master in China. Just saying. xD
