Updates – 12.06AM 19th April 2011

Finally, it’s over. At least there’s an ending to it. 4 days into the incident with 1,200 Facebook Shares on the two blogs combined – Places And FoodsTianChad.

1554 Posts and 3908 Comments tracked in the last 48 hours base on JUST these 2 Facebook Page – BoyCott Energizer Night Race Facebook PageEnergizer Night Race Malaysia Facebook Page.

Negative publicity is STILL publicity and i guess if there will be a night race next year by Energizer, people would still join. So. Yeah. Cheers?

Updates – 11.40AM 18th April 2011

The Star reported about the incident.
Andreas West (Celcom Bhd’s customer management senior vice-president) is the creator of the Facebook Page – BoyCott Energizer Night Race
Event’s main sponsor ENERGIZER will meet Expose Media to discuss further action to be taken

Andreas West faxed an open letter to the sports minister
I found 2 new pages created – Energizer Night Race KL 2011: We want justice & Boycott Josephine Huang + Justice
A video on Josie Huang was posted/shared on Facebook
A screenshot of a note written by Josie was posted/shared on Facebook

Personally, i think this whole incident is going to the next level and everyone should cool down by now. The race happened on Friday and it’s already Monday.

From the information obtained, Josie Huang is the ONLY name/individual bearing all the responsibilities where we don’t really have her side of the story. Yes there are videos of her and a note written by her with lotsa negative remarks on how rude was she but from what i’ve read on her blog (which is now closed), she just went through a hard time in her marriage where divorce is the solution.

She’s now taking care of her daughter and from the blog posts written, she’s kinda in depression. I might be wrong and i have no say in this whole incident, but let me just bring back this name – Alviss Kong.

WHAT IF she does something stupid?

As of 11AM 18th April 2011
There were approx. 1,000 shares on both the blog posts writing on their First Hand Experience at the moment.

The Officials posted this on Energizer Race Night Malaysia Facebook Page at 12.11PM
Attention all citizens of ENR2011, We appreciate your comments for the race. All finishing goodie bags will be given out and a official statement from Expose and Energizer will be out soon. TQ.

But clearly it shows that they don’t appreciate the comments and they are working ‘quite hard’ to erase/remove the comments on the Facebook Page.

This is getting more interesting to watch. I would want to see how they clear up this mess, a mess which social media contributed quite an amount to. Ha!

There’s an estimation of 1.5k-2k hate comments or more being made at this time.

Totally have no clue at all that there was this drama going on Facebook that was bigger than the 10th Sarawak state election happening this weekend. It was till i saw quite a number of friends liking a Facebook Page – Energizer Night Race Malaysia only to found out that people were extremely pissed off!

Before this, having a few friends joining this race had me thinking that it was quite cool. I mean, hey, running in the night with 10,000 other people on a F1 track? Awesomeee!!!

Check out this race picture from last year’s Energizer Night Race 2010!

Looking pretty awesome right? Lolx.

Had quite a fun time reading the hate comments there on Energizer Night Race Malaysia Facebook page wondering will they delete all the comments. Anyways, from the comments, the summary i got on why people were pissed off are as written below :

Why were the Participants of Energizer Night Race 2011 unsatisfied :
Rm10 Parking Fee
No Goodie Bags
No Finisher Tee
No Medals
No pointers on where is the starting point
No directions on how to get to the track from the entrance
No water at finishing line
No usher around to guide the runners
No clear instructions for the race
Organizers left before the race finishes
Rude Emcee
Big mess at Water station
Participants were stuck in the tunnel
Bad in andling goodie bags distribution
Participants were shouted at when they enquire about more information
Insufficient manpower/staffs to manage the event

The earliest complaint on the Facebook page came in at around 4PM 16th April 2011. The amount of hate-comments shot up at around 11pm. 12am-3am is  the peak period where comments flooded the page adding the total of complaints being made to approx. 800!

Yes it was THAT insane and i haven even track the complaints being made over at this page & this page.

Summary :
4 words. Welcome to Social Media!

Do read up these 3 first hand experience by 3 bloggers.
Places And Foods – Energizer Night Race 2011, Worst Race Ever!

Yes, someone even reveal the director of the Event Organizer : Josie Huang Wan Ling. Have no idea of its authenticity. No harm trying?

By the way, don’t expect too much from Energizer. Dreaming of getting the above item will get you to no where, the most you can expect is a Facebook Wall Apology from Energizer such as below…

Yes. Apparently, they screwed up in 2010 and YES again, this year’s event is clearly more screwed up compared to last year where Energizer didn’t really care to make it a better event this year.

Will they learn from their mistake and change? You answer the question yourself.

Oh and can someone tell me how much are they earning from this race and i would really want to know how much they paid the event organizers. =D

why the organizers can’t use a really big open area to decide to give the goodies by the categories. poor to us that reach the 42km finishing line with nothing be proud it. (no drinks is most supprise, lucky i still can drink the water from the big drum ice tube at last 3km) Actually it should be a amaging night run! or i suggest the goodies should be deliver when runners hit the finishing line. Well organizer hope it will not be happen in upcoming event and pls pls hopes to get my finisher presents”. and RM10 parking fee is not accepted.

Just a question, how do you see the shared links statistics on Facebook?

With all the bad publicity the last few days, I think Energizer is in the limelight of getting your product name being promoted rather than your competitors like Duracel, Panasonic, etc.
Now it seems the whole nation come to know of Energizer, the nation’s top battery producer. Keep up your name & try to do better next year. At least you try your very best.

  5. Anonymous says:

yes, i strongly agreed, everything is there, they just short of staff to handle 10,000 runners.

As they say, there’s no such thing as bad press. :) However, Expose Media definitely got a blow from this incident. And the Director takes on the blow because in such a scenario, every boss will be the one responsible. You can’t ask your PA or executive to make the announcement, it’ll add more oil to the fire.

Well, it looks like Energizer’s latest comments was a good move. All they should be focusing on right now is putting up more good than bad. Or, defend themselves that they weren’t wrong. :)

Thanks to Google I found your blog on this particular ENR 2011 entry. I don’t know if you’ve heard of PJ Dawn 2012 but I have registered for it (21K) months back and only found out this morning that this Josie (formerly with Expose Media) now with Outbox Production is organizing the race! Even though Pacesetter is running the race but the fact that she is associated with it (Josie Huang Wan Ling – Outbox Branding & Communication Manager) gives me nightmares.

Pls have a read further on this blog’s entry. http://runwitme.blogspot.com/2012/04/pj-dawn-run-2012-press-conference.html
